A hundred supporters representing 22 penyes <\/strong>gathered in Sant Corneli, in the municipality of Cercs<\/strong>, to take part in the 2nd Joan Casals Memorial<\/strong>, an event paying tribute to the figure of the \u201cAvi del Bar\u00e7a\u201d a little more than two years after his passing<\/a>. In this second edition, the event was organised by the Penya Blaugrana La Baells-Cercs<\/a><\/strong>, with the collaboration of the Federaci\u00f3 de Penyes del Bages, Bergued\u00e0 i Cerdanya, the PB Guardiola de Bergued\u00e0 and the Ajuntament de Cercs<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n

The institutional act began with the unveiling of a commemorative plaque marking the 50th anniversary of the charity match between Bar\u00e7a and Bar\u00e7a Atl\u00e8tic<\/strong>, held following the accident at the \u201cMina Consolaci\u00f3\u201d (Consolation Mine) in F\u00edgols in 1975<\/strong>. This tragedy claimed thirty victims among the workers there, and all the proceeds from the match between the two blaugrana teams were donated to their families. <\/p>\n\n

Historical memory act<\/strong><\/h6>\n\n

Afterwards, a historical memory event in remembrance of Joan Casals took place. First, journalist Arcadi Alib\u00e9s dedicated a few words of tribute to him<\/strong>, highlighting the importance of his figure within the blaugrana movement. Then, historian Pol Navarro<\/strong> explained in detail the context and consequences of the aforementioned accident at the mine in F\u00edgols. Finally, Antonio Olmo<\/strong>, former player and member of the Agrupaci\u00f3 Bar\u00e7a Jugadors, shared his personal testimony about his participation in that charity match half a century ago<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n

The event continued with the participation of several representatives from the penyes and institutional world, including Toni Valverde<\/strong>, president of the Federaci\u00f3 de Penyes del Bages, Bergued\u00e0 i Cerdanya; Salva Torres<\/strong>, vice president of the Confederaci\u00f3 Mundial de Penyes; the aforementioned Antonio Olmo<\/strong>; Jordi Casals<\/strong>, board member of FC Barcelona; Esteve Ripoll<\/strong>, president of PB La Baells-Cercs; and Urbici Malagarriga<\/strong>, mayor of Cercs. The closing remarks were delivered by Joan Casals, son of the Avi del Bar\u00e7a, who expressed his gratitude to all participants<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n

The day concluded with a fellowship lunch at Restaurant Santa B\u00e0rbara in Sant Corneli. It was the final touch to a day filled with emotion, remembrance and blaugrana spirit<\/strong>, once again highlighting the relevance that Joan Casals had within the FC Barcelona social movement<\/strong> in general and within the penyes in particular. <\/p>\n\n
