As it does every year around this time, veterans\u2019 football<\/strong> has taken centre stage at Penya Bar\u00e7a L\u2019Hospitalet de l\u2019Infant<\/a><\/strong> (Federaci\u00f3 Tarragona Nord). Over the last two weekends in June, the blaugrana penya organised two of its most established events: the Josep Seguer Tournament<\/strong>, which this year reached its 20th edition<\/strong>, and the traditional Sant Pere Festival match<\/strong>, which included a very special tribute. Both matches were held at the L\u2019Arenal football ground. <\/p>\n\n

20th Josep Seguer Veterans Tournament<\/strong><\/h6>\n\n

This year, the 20th Josep Seguer Veterans Tournament organised by PB L\u2019Hospitalet de l\u2019Infant featured a single-match format, contested between the veterans’ team of the penya and the Reus Deportiu veterans<\/strong>. It was a closely fought encounter that was not decided until the final minutes, ending 1-2 in favour of the Reus side. Beyond the result, the occasion was marked by enjoyment and a great atmosphere<\/strong> between both teams. <\/p>\n\n

The match formed part of the celebrations for the 40th anniversary of PB L\u2019Hospitalet de l\u2019Infant<\/a><\/strong>. For this reason, the host penya presented the Reus Deportiu veterans with the sculpture created especially for the occasion, in recognition of the Reus club\u2019s loyalty to the tournament<\/strong>. The event was attended by Francesc Candela<\/strong>, president of PB L\u2019Hospitalet de l\u2019Infant, and Assumpci\u00f3 Castellv\u00ed<\/strong>, mayor of Vandell\u00f2s, as well as by relatives of Josep Seguer<\/strong>, the legendary Bar\u00e7a player of the 1940s and 1950s whom the tournament honours. <\/p>\n\n

Tribute to Marcos Esp\u00ednola<\/strong><\/h6>\n\n

One week later, the L\u2019Arenal ground was once again filled for the traditional veterans match held as part of the Sant Pere Festival <\/strong>and organised by PB L\u2019Hospitalet de l\u2019Infant. On this occasion, the penya\u2019s veterans team faced the Gimn\u00e0stic de Tarragona veterans<\/strong>. Once again, the match was very evenly contested and was narrowly won (1-2) by the Tarragona side. <\/p>\n\n

This year, the event had a special element, as PB L\u2019Hospitalet de l\u2019Infant wanted to pay tribute to Marcos Esp\u00ednola<\/strong>, recognising his career as president and founder of the L\u2019Hospitalet de l\u2019Infant grassroots football setup<\/strong>, as well as his support for veterans\u2019 football at local level. Esp\u00ednola took part in the match as captain of the host veterans’ team<\/strong> and received a special trophy from Francesc Candela. It was an afternoon full of emotion for everyone in attendance. <\/p>\n\n
