With the arrival of summer, sports tournaments take centre stage among all the activities organised by FC Barcelona supporters’ clubs, especially those aimed at youngsters. In fact, there are some events that become an event in their region, as demonstrated by the Kings Lliga that the Penya Blaugrana de Anglès (Federació Gironès, Selva, Garrotxa i Pla de l’Estany) held recently.
After the good reception of its premiere last year, the PB Anglès organised the second edition of this competition inspired by the Kings League and saw the success of the initiative go even further. Participation increased from 11 to 16 teams, all of them coming from the town itself or other parts of Girona, and mainly made up of youngsters. The duration of the competition was also extended to 16 hours without a break: from 8.00 am until midnight. he venue was the Municipal Sports Hall of Anglès.
Fair play above all else
The 2nd Kings League of the PB Anglès was played in futsal format, but again added excitement and fun with the presence of the popular cards (penalty kicks, sanctions to rival players, goals with double value, etc.). There were also federated referees. In any case, and as Jordi Casals, the president of the penya, points out, fair play and a good atmosphere reigned at all times among all the participants; a fact that was a top priority for the organisers.
Once again, the PB Anglès counted on the collaboration of the town council, a fact that was reflected in the presence of the mayor, Jordi Pibernat, and the councillor Neus Ros, who presented the trophies. In the same sense, all the teams had free access to the Anglès Municipal Swimming Pool to refresh themselves between games. Once again, the supporters’ club demonstrated its strong roots in the municipality and its close collaboration with its institutions in organising initiatives such as this one.
