As every year at this time, the Penya Gent Blaugrana de Meknès (World Federation) has organized a new edition of the Meknès Trophy, a football event that has already become very popular in Morocco. In this 7th edition, the penya has brought together a total of eight veteran teams: the Moroccan CODM Meknès, MAS Fez, Association Java, Renaissance Berkane and Wydad Casablanca, have been joined by Farense from Portugal, and Melilla FC and IES Sports from Spain. With this, PB Meknès wanted to stage the union of the three countries that will jointly organize the next Football World Cup in 2030: Spain, Portugal and Morocco. The event also included a friendly match between the teams of Gent Blaugrana Meknès and Penya Barcelonista de Kenitra.
The 7th Meknès Trophy was once again played at the Motiv Club Fitness facilities, where the participating teams faced each other in an atmosphere of excitement, but above all fair play among them. In addition, the PB Gent Blaugrana of Meknès wanted to pay tribute to former Moroccan national team player Hamid Abdelouahad and referee Bouchra Karboubi, who was the first Moroccan woman to referee a football match. In addition, several emblematic figures of Moroccan football were present during the tournament, which was a success in terms of organization and had a great media impact in the North African country.
Agreement to promote grassroots sports in Morocco
This 7th edition of the Meknès Trophy has not only focused on football activity on the pitch. Within the framework of this event, the IES Sports team from Lleida has reached an agreement to promote and encourage grassroots sport in Morocco, based on the concepts of training and education in values. Thus, this initiative of the Penya Gent Blaugrana of Meknès will have an impact on the sporting and personal development of young people in their country.
