The PB Dakar launches its 1st Children’s Football Tournament

The Senegalese supporter’s club promotes grassroots football in its country with a competition that brings together eight children’s teams and that will end with a very special event.

The Penya Blaugrana de Dakar (FCB World Federation) has launched its 1st Children’s Football Tournament, one of its most ambitious projects since its creation, just under a year ago. The initiative arose during the general assembly that the supporters’ club from the Senegalese capital held on December 2023, in which it defined its activities for the current year 2024, and has had the invaluable help and encouragement of the penya’s sponsor and honorary president, former Senegalese international player Mamadou Lamino Mboup. The aim was to continue to spread FC Barcelona passion and to promote grassroots football in this African country, but above all to make the youngsters happy while playing their favourite sport.

The tournament, which takes place in the city of Dakar, has a total of eight children’s teams taking part. Among them is the team created by Mamadou Lamino Mboup, which wears the colours of FC Barcelona under the name of Penya Blaugrana FC Barcelone. Completing the competition are teams from the Reubeuss, Challenge Foot, Diabote, Entente Centenaire Gibraltar, Fara Gomis, Révélation Foot and Ousmane Diallo football schools.

The big finale, on a very special day

The first day of the tournament was played on 11 May, and the calendar is scheduled to be extended until 29 June. This is not just any given date, as it will coincide with the celebration of the 1st anniversary of the Penya Blaugrana de Dakar, which is why the supporters’ club is preparing an event to mark the occasion. In addition to the big finale of the 1st Children’s Football Tournament, there will also be a gala match between members of the PB Dakar and a group of former players from the Senegal national football team.

The party will end with the presentation of trophies, where, in addition to the winning teams, the penya will also award the best player, the top scorer, the best goalkeeper and the team with the best fair-play. And, obviously, there will be a birthday cake for all participants, commemorating the first year of existence of the PB Dakar, the first official penya in Senegal.
