The “Barça and Catalunya” conferences are back on track

The Penya Barcelonista d’Arbúcies will be the first to receive the representation of the conference, specifically its second part “Temps de foscor” (Dark Times)

After the August break, the cycle of conferences “Barça i Catalunya” is back on track to visit penyes throughout the country and continue to spread the history of FC Barcelona and its link with Catalan society. This coming Saturday 7 September, the Penya Barcelonista d’Arbúcies (Federació Gironès, Selva, Garrotxa i Pla de l’Estany) will be the first to host the conference, specifically its second part “Temps de foscor” (Dark Times). It will be at 10:30 am, at the Museum of the Gabella of Arbúcies (Calle Mayor, 6).

This conference will feature a very special guest, Joan Camprubí Montal, who is precisely the great-grandson of one of the protagonists of the conference: Agustí Montal y Galobart, who was president of FC Barcelona between 1946 and 1952. He is also the grandson of President Agustí Montal y Costa, who led the Club between 1969 and 1977. Camprubí will participate in the final talk of the event. The conference at the PB Arbúcies will be led, as usual, by the vice president of the Confederació Mundial de Penyes, Salva Torres. He will be accompanied by Josep Seguer, son of the mythical defender of the Barça de les Cinc Copes, and by Aksana Vayevoda in the technical part.

165 performances, with prestigious guests

Lately, the “Barça i Catalunya” conferences have incorporated this new final section with the intervention of some exceptional guests. In addition to possible future candidates for the presidency of FC Barcelona, such as Víctor Font or Marc Círia, and now Joan Camprubí, former FC Barcelona players from different sections, renowned politicians or leaders from various municipal or territorial areas have participated in the conferences. In any case, according to the organizers, it is a space “open to the final participation of everyone who wishes to do so”.

The cycle of conferences “Barça i Catalunya”, offered by the Sociocultural Commission of the Confederació Mundial de Penyes, consists of three parts: “Els origens de la simbiosi” (The origins of symbiosis), which explains the early years of the Club’s history until the Civil War; “Temps de foscor” (Dark Times), which recounts the experiences of FC Barcelona during the war and the Franco regime, reaching the 60s; and “Ambaixades” (Embassies) which focuses on the history of the penyes. From 2018 to present day, a total of 165 performances have been carried out, adding the three parts.

The penyes interested in hosting any of the conferences of the “Barça i Catalunya” cycle can contact their territorial Federation to manage the request.
