Throughout the year, the FC Barcelona penyes focus part of their activity on promoting culture among their members. When spring arrives and St. George’s Day approaches, books take on a special role, either with presentations of new titles or other actions that seek to instil reading; and this is often related to the Barça universe. In recent weeks, the Penya Blaugrana Igualada (Fed. Anoia, Alt Penedès i Garraf), the Penya Blaugrana Sant Cugat (Fed. Vallès) and the Penya Barcelonista Els Tamarells (Fed. Illes Balears) have been some of the protagonists in this area.
Presentations of new titles
In the capital of Anoia, the PB Igualada organized the presentation of the book ‘Els Campañà i el Barça’, which took place at the Casal Popular El Foment. The format was a conversation between the author, Arnau Gonzàlez, and the young historian Víctor Garrido, also with the participation of the attendees, led by the president of the PB Igualada, Toni Claramunt. The book deals with the evolution of the Campañà family’s sports photography from 1935 to 2007, reviewing the sporting, political and cultural aspects of FC Barcelona and Catalonia.
As for the PB Sant Cugat, it hosted the presentation of the book ‘Esport per a Tothom. Visió, vector i marca país’, written by Raül Romeva from Sant Cugat. The author was accompanied by the journalist Jofre Llombart, moderator of the event, as well as the president of the PB Sant Cugat, Josep Maria Félez, and a good representation of penya members. The book talks about the role that sport plays in our society, and how it influences in different areas, beyond the purely sporting or competitive.

Reading Club
Finally, the PB Els Tamarells, through its Cultural Area, presented the ‘Club de Lectura a Casa’ project, together with the libraries of Felanitx and Portocolom. This project encourages reading and a critical spirit by offering readers sets of five books, with a guide and a notebook to take notes. During the event, the PB Els Tamarells, led by its president Sebastià Oliver, presented five copies of the book ‘Mariona Caldentey. Com hem canviat la història’, to be included in these sets. The penyista Bartomeu Mestre ‘Balutxo’ did the same with his book ‘El darrer manuscrit’.
