The Penya Barcelonista Els Tamarells, belonging to the Federació de Penyes Barcelonistes de les Illes Balears, once again revolutionized the town of Felanitx with the 10th edition of its Solidarity Trail. The Mallorcan penya exceeded all expectations, bringing together some 500 participants and collecting a truly record-breaking figure: 26,747 euros. An amount that this year will go to improve the life quality of Carolina Parejo, a young woman from Sant Llorenç des Cardassar who suffers from Vascular Compressive Syndromes. Therefore, this edition had the message “Everyone with Carol” .
A day for all ages and with renowned collaborators
The 10th Solidarity Trail offered the attendants different formats to participate. A mountain trail was disputed in two distances, two walks adapted to all ages, a line dance and a cycling tour; the latter, organized by the Cycling Union of Sant Llorenç. The Federació de Penyes de les Illes Balears, the Confederació Mundial de Penyes and the Town Councils of Felanitx and Sant Llorenç des Cardassar also collaborated. In addition, many associations, businesses and individuals contributed donations, resources or prizes for the charity raffle.
In total, 305 gifts were raffled. Among them, there were shirts donated by clubs such as Barça, Manchester City, Mallorca, Villarreal, Real Madrid or At. Baleares , as well as a shirt and boots signed by Arsenal player and member of the PB Els Tamarells Mariona Caldentey. Other athletes, such as cyclist Enric Mas, also gave presents. All this contributed to the great final proceeds. The check was handed over to Carolina Parejo herself by the president of the PB Els Tamarells, Sebastià Oliver, the mayoress of Felanitx, Catalina Soler, and the mayor of Sant Llorenç, Jaume Soler. Also present was Òscar Escoda, president of the Federació de Penyes de Balears.
Parallel activities to complete the fundraising
This year, the PB Els Tamarells complemented the Solidarity Trail with several related activities. One of them was a talk and debate on Vascular Compressive Syndromes, the disease suffered by this year’s protagonist. Several contrasting voices from the health field participated, as well as Carolina Parejo herself and other people who suffer from this disease. All of them helped to understand the effects of these syndromes, the challenges they pose and the importance of making progress in their diagnosis and treatment.
On the other hand, on the days prior to the Trail were made several actions. In the Cafè de Can Moix, a solidarity “glossada” was held by the Glossadors de Mallorca, while in the Casa de Cultura the play “3G”, by the group Esqueix Teatre, from Sant Llorenç, was performed. Also, during these days, there was a solidarity concert and a Christmas Market. All these initiatives added their proceeds to the final figure of 26,747 euros, a real record for the PB Els Tamarells.
