The first edition of the Children’s 7-a-side Football Tournament organised by the Peña Barcelonista de Iznájar (Federación de Peñas de Andalucía, Ceuta y Melilla) took place on Saturday 24 May in the Cordoba town of Iznájar. The event, which had the collaboration of the Town Council of this town, brought together a total of 15 teams between the U9, U11 and U13 categories in the Valdearenas Sports Pitches. In total, around 200 boys and girls aged between 9 and 14 years, from Iznájar and other neighbouring municipalities, enjoyed a day of coexistence and sport.
The trophies for the top finishers in the Children’s 7-a-side Football Tournament of PB Iznájar were presented by the president of the penya, Paco Luque; the secretary of the entity, Mamen Portillo; the Iznájar Town Councillor for Sports, Rubén López; and the Iznájar Town Councillor for Citizen Participation, Loles Campillos. In total, the Peña Iznájar distributed almost 1,000 euros in prizes, as well as a backpack with fruit, soft drinks and sweets to each participant thanks to the collaboration of local businesses such as ‘Los Jovianes’ and ‘Distribución Iznajeña de Bebidas’.
The PB Iznájar made a very positive assessment of this 1st Children’s 7-a-side Football Tournament, which was promoted with the aim of encouraging the development of grassroots football among children in the region. The penya is already working on a second edition to consolidate the success of this initiative.
