The Confederació Mundial de Penyes commemorate the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty

The organization representing the Barça penyes movement joins the fight against poverty led by EAPN-ES

The Confederació Mundial de Penyes, through its CSR Subcommittee, commemorates today the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, celebrated every year on October 17 as declared by the United Nations in 1992. The blaugrana entity seeks to join this day, which addresses the challenge of achieving the first Sustainable Development Goal: “end poverty in all its forms everywhere.” In 2025, the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty focuses on the social and institutional mistreatment suffered by people living in poverty, ensuring respectful and effective support for families.

Every year, many Barça supporters’ clubs around the world carry out all kinds of actions aimed at helping people with fewer resources and at risk of exclusion. From clothing, food, toy, and material drives to financial donations or contributions to major aid campaigns, every initiative adds up toward the goal of eradicating poverty. This spirit of solidarity is one of the values that define the supporters’ club movement, regardless of territory.

EAPN-ES poverty report

In Spain, the Confederació supports EAPN-ES (European Anti-Poverty Network), an independent coalition of NGOs and other groups involved in the fight against poverty and social exclusion. According to the 15th Annual Report prepared by this organization and presented in 2025, Spain has 12.5 million people at risk of poverty and/or social exclusion, equivalent to 25.8% of the population. Although this figure is the lowest in the last decade, it includes data showing that Spain’s child poverty rate is the highest in the entire European Union: 2.3 million children and adolescents are poor, and 3 out of 10 families with minors live at risk of poverty or social exclusion.

EAPN-ES urges political parties to approve the State Pact Against Poverty currently under discussion in the Spanish Congress. As the organization points out, this initiative must include measures that guarantee decent income at all stages of life — among them, universal child benefits — access to decent housing, quality employment, inclusive education, care and co-responsibility policies, proposals to fight aporophobia, and the promotion of good governance.
