The Trophy of Gent Blaugrana Meknès continues to grow in its 8th edition

It brought together seven teams from Morocco, Spain, and Ivory Coast, paid tribute to several Moroccan football figures, and for the first time, included a youth tournament

The Meknès Trophy, organized by the Penya Gent Blaugrana Meknès (FCB World Federation), has established itself as a prestigious football event in this Moroccan city. The 8th edition confirmed this status with another successful turnout and the introduction of new features. The Motiv Club Fitness in Meknès once again hosted the seven veteran teams from three countries that participated in the tournament: CODM Meknès, MES Fes, Renaissance Berkane, and the national veterans team from Morocco; LSA Lleida and Arrabal Calaf from Spain; and the team from Ivory Coast. After the knockout rounds and the final, Renaissance Berkane emerged as the winner, although fair play was the true highlight throughout the competition.

Tributes and new features

The main novelty of this 8th edition of the Meknès Trophy was the inclusion of a youth tournament in the U-13 category, which was a great success both in terms of excitement and audience attendance. In this way, the Gent Blaugrana Meknès club reaffirms its commitment to promoting grassroots football in the region. Additionally, the event featured a friendly match between a team made up of members of the organizing Barça supporters’ club and a local association team.

As is tradition, the Gent Blaugrana Meknès took the opportunity to honor several notable figures. Among them were three former players of the Moroccan national team who won the 1976 Africa Cup of Nations: Abdallah Tazi, Redouane Guezzar, and Abdelâali Zahraoui. Recognition was also given to Mohamed Guezzaz, former international referee from Morocco; Moulay Driss Khalfi, former general secretary of CODM Meknès; and Charafeddine Dinar, sports advisor for Tot per Terrassa. The upcoming organization of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, starting on December 21, also played a prominent role throughout the tournament.
