The PB Porreres recognizes its founders

The penya of the Federació Balears kicked off its 40th anniversary celebrations by paying tribute to the key figures of these four decades of history

The Penya Barcelonista de Porreres, belonging to the Federació de Penyes de les Illes Balears, commemorates its 40th anniversary this year, and has begun the celebration with a tribute to those responsible for the creation of the entity. Specifically, the penya organized the viewing of some video images shot in 1983 showing the precursors of the foundation of the PB Porreres, which would arrive a year later. Afterwards, a colloquium was held to remember these first steps of the FC Barcelona supporters’ club and to review its four decades of history. The event gathered about 80 people at the cultural center s’Escorxador in Porreres, and included a raffle of two tickets for the Barça-Leganés among all attendees.

Participating in the event were Oscar Escoda, president of the Federació de Penyes de les Illes Balears; Bernadí Barceló, president of the PB Porreres; Antoni Martorell, former president of the PB Porreres; Antoni Picornell, former president and founding member of the penya; Miguel Rosselló, who ran the old headquarters of the PB Porreres; and Marta Escoda and Sebastia Lliteres, councilors and members of the Mallorcan penya. The event was also attended by the mayoress of Porreres, Francisca Mora, in recognition of the roots that the blaugrana penya has with her town. On November 17, the PB Porreres will celebrate the main event of its 40th anniversary.

The beginnings of the PB Porreres

The first steps of the Penya Barcelonista de Porreres date back to 1981 in the bar Can Miquel de sa Torre, with names like Sebastià Terrible, Carles Escoda, Gaspar Barceló de sa Fonda, Joan Vila, Jaume Bou, Toni Pobler, Mateu Diego, Toni Ullons, Miquel de sa Torre, Tomeu Apotecari, Miquel Verdero, Tomeu d’Alcoraia, Xim de sa Fonda or Toni Vila, among others. Thanks to their initiative, the penya became official in 1984. From watching the matches on VHS on Mondays, when football was not televised, to the first activities and trips to Camp Nou, the penya grew and consolidated as an important entity in Porreres.

After Sebastià Terrible, names such as Ángel Rivera, Antoni Martorell and Oscar Escoda passed through the presidency of the PB Porreres, until the current president, Bernadí Barceló. Throughout all these years, one of the major milestones of the penya was in 2009, with the celebration of the Meetign of Penyes of Balearic Islands in Porreres, which was attended by nearly 1,000 people and more than 30 Balearic penyes were represented.
