The “Villa de Peguera” Solidarity Tournament breaks records again in its 12th edition

The PB Peguera-Calvià brought together 260 U-11 players for three days of competition and raised €1,600 for charitable causes

Once again, the Penya Barcelonista de Peguera-Calvià (Federació de Penyes de les Illes Balears) didn’t miss its appointment with the “Villa de Peguera” Solidarity Tournament, which has now established itself as a benchmark championship in Mallorca. Following last year’s great success, the 12th edition of this initiative once again surpassed itself in terms of both participation and fundraising. The venue was once again the Camp Municipal Es Pas de Ses Llebres in Peguera, where a total of around 3,000 people watched the competition between 20 teams and a total of 260 youth players in more than 50 matches over three very special days.

The 12th Villa de Peguera Soldarity Tournament featured the participation of clubs such as FC Barcelona, RCD Mallorca, Villarreal CF, Valencia CF and Sevilla FC, along with numerous teams from the Mallorca area. The competition began with a first phase consisting of four groups of five teams each, followed by the knockout stages and the grand final. As was the case last year, Barça and Mallorca contested the title in a thrilling match, which was decided on penalties in favour of the blaugrana team. This year, it is worth highlighting the Villa de Peguera Solidarity Tournament’s commitment to fair play and sports education, reflected in a joint oath taken by the organisation, players, referees and families on the first day of competition.

Large fundraising

This 12th edition of the Villa de Peguera Charity Tournament also achieved a record in terms of fundraising for charity. Thanks to high participation and attractive prizes such as shirts signed by the first teams of the participating clubs, the charity raffle organised by PB Peguera-Calvià raised a total of €1,600. This sum was divided between the ‘Mario – My Little Big Hero’ initiative, which helps a child suffering from the rare Wilson Turner disease, and the Asdica association, which assists people with disabilities and their families in Calvià.

The president of PB Peguera-Calvià, Sebastian Palmer, led the organisation together with the members of his penya. The event was attended by Pere Jordà, representative of the Federació de les Illes Balears; Mateu Mas, member of the Club’s Social Commission; Joan Josep Estella, former player and member of the Agrupació Barça Jugadors; Benito Carlos Ferrer, local councillor for the Peguera Town Council; and Rafael León, head of tourism projects at Calvia365. Toni Lato, RCD Mallorca player, also supported the initiative by attending the tournament.
