Penya Barcelonista de Totana (Federación de Peñas Barcelonistas de Murcia) has received the Prison Social Merit Medal in recognition of its contribution and commitment to people deprived of liberty. The event, held in Murcia when the feast day of Our Lady of Mercy, was attended by Juan Carrión, president of PB Totana and of the Federación de Peñas Barcelonistas de Murcia, who accepted the award on behalf of the club. This recognition highlights decades of collaboration between PB Totana and the prison sector, where it promotes sporting, cultural, social and charitable activities to foster inclusion, coexistence and reintegration.
“Paths of Freedom” project at CIS Guillermo Miranda
Since 2024, this involvement has been strengthened at Guillermo Miranda SIC through a programme of scheduled outings and the “Paths of Freedom” project. Thanks to this initiative, people from the centre take part each week in hiking activities and contact with nature, accompanied by monitors. This action brings together sport, health, coexistence, responsibility and reintegration, while also incorporating care and clean-up activities in natural spaces, contributing to environmental protection and community engagement.
PB Totana has expressed its special thanks to the management team of Guillermo Miranda SIC and to its director, Patricio Amorós, for their trust, involvement and support in making this initiative possible and ensuring its continuity. It has also made special mention of the members of the penya who volunteer their time for the “Paths of Freedom” project, whose role is key to the success of this initiative. The penya wished to share the Prison Social Merit Medal with all of them and underlines its commitment to the reintegration of people deprived of liberty.
Raising awareness of rare diseases
As part of its activity in the prison sector, PB Totana also stands out for its awareness-raising activities on rare diseases, carried out in collaboration with the D’Genes Rare Diseases Association and the International Association of Relatives and People Affected by Lipodystrophies (AELIP). The penya helps convey to inmates’ values such as solidarity, empathy and commitment to people and families living with these conditions.
