The movement of Barça supporters’ clubs in the regions of Alicante enjoyed its most anticipated day last Saturday in the town of Alcoy. Around 200 Barça fans gathered there for the 10th Meeting of Barça Penyes of Alicante, which became a day full of unity and culer spirit. The event was organised by the Federació de Penyes de les Comarques d’Alacant and the Penya Barcelonista Alcoiana, which celebrated its 40th anniversary. The Confederació Mundial de Penyes and FC Barcelona also collaborated.
40 years of the PB Alcoiana
The Meeting began at midday with the arrival of the supporters, who represented a total of 24 supporters’ clubs (22 from the Federació d’Alacant and two from the Federación de Castilla-La Mancha). The headquarters of the PB Alcoiana hosted the official reception and also the opening speech, delivered by Doctor of Fine Arts and urban painting professor, Josep Sou. Afterwards, a commemorative plaque for the 40th anniversary of the PB Alcoiana was unveiled.
The president of the penya, Juan Ramon Juan, hosted the event together with the president of the Federació de Penyes d’Alacant, Francisco Baile, and the mayor of Alcoy, Antonio Francés. On behalf of FC Barcelona, the social vice president, Antonio Escudero; the president of the Agrupació de Jugadors del FC Barcelona, Juan Manuel Asensi; and former players José Joaquín Albadalejo, Félix Palomares, and Ricardo Serna were in attendance. The president of the Federación de Peñas de Castilla-La Mancha, Daniel Peinado, also did not miss the event.
Gala celebration and culer victory
The 10th Meeting of Penyes of Alicante concluded with the gala celebration, where journalists Joan Poquí (Mundo Deportivo) and Alfredo Martínez (Onda Cero) joined the invited guests. Despite some protocol differences with certain members of the Club, the event unfolded in a great atmosphere, with exchanges of gifts among the Federations and participating penyes. Some attendees extended the celebration into the evening to watch the Elche–Barça match together. The blaugrana victory (1-3) was the perfect ending to a day that proved that Barça passion is more alive than ever in the regions of Alicante.
