The Penya Barcelonista de La Riera de Gaià (Federació de Penyes de Tarragona Nord) can now explain that they have carried their colours to 5,895 metres above sea level. It is the summit of Kilimanjaro, the highest of the African continent, and that was achieved last Sunday, June 1, by the president of the penya, Marc Aznar, accompanied by another of its members. Both travelled to Tanzania in mid-May to embark on an expedition that has taken them to this emblematic peak. In all the stages and stops, the two members of the PB La Riera de Gaià have proudly worn the blaugrana flag of the penya and have shared experiences with the local population.
In mid-October, the PB La Riera de Gaià already showed its vocation for hiking by reaching the summit of Puigmal, more than 2,900 metres high. In addition, the penya has recovered the traditional walk to Montserrat from La Riera de Gaià, a 100-kilometre route that every year has more popularity and participants in the town of Tarragona.

High-altitude blaugrana passion all over the world
This mountainous achievement of the PB La Riera de Gaià joins other FC Barcelona penyes around the world that in recent months have wanted to take their colours to the highest peaks of the planet. In fact, one of them reached the highest point of all, as a member of the Penya Blaugrana Osos Rusos crowned nothing less than the peak of Everest, at 8,849 metres. Also in Nepal, a member of the Penya Barça de Everest immortalised his ascent to the Gokyo Lakes, located at an altitude of almost 5,000 metres. Finally, two members of the Barça Polska Fan Club also demonstrated their hiking skills by reaching the summit of Babia Gora, at an altitude of almost 1,800 metres.
