The Penya Barcelonista Els Tamarells has just had a fantastic weekend. The numerous events celebrating its 19th anniversary brought together dozens of Mallorcan culés in Felanitx for two days, and on Sunday culminated with an VIII Solidarity Trail that was a success in terms of participation and fundraising. All this again demonstrated the immense weight and commitment of the PB Els Tamarells in its territory.
19th anniversary full of familiar faces
The celebration of the 19th anniversary started Friday with the inauguration of the remodeling of its headquarters. Among other things, the PB Els Tamarells presented a new room with a 7×3 meters mural made by a local artist, and also paid tribute to two very special members of the club: Pau Debon and Joan Roca, singer and bassist of the band Antònia Font. Present were Òscar Escoda, president of the Federació de Penyes de les Illes Balears; Jaume Monserrat, mayor of Felanitx; and Mateu Mas, member of the Social Commission of FC Barcelona.
Afterwards, the club celebrated the 19th anniversary commemorative dinner with many of its members and friends. In addition to the institutional presence mentioned above, there were three former FC Barcelona players who are honorary members of the PB Els Tamarells: Juan Domingo De la Cruz (basketball), Melisa Nicolau (women’s football) and Pere Vaquer (handball).
The next day, the celebration continued with a talk by former players Joan Estella and Rafael Zuviría, who reviewed their careers with the blaugrana shirt. The peña paid them a small tribute. After the talk, Zuviría offered the attendees a wine and cava pairing session.
Great success of the VIII Solidarity Trail
The icing on the cake of the 19th anniversary of the PB Els Tamarells was the VIII Solidarity Trail, held on Sunday. Again, through this mountain sporting event, the club mobilized hundreds of people and several entities for a good cause, and the initiative was again a success. In total, 400 runners of all ages participated, which contributed to reach the 9,482 euros of collection. This amount will go to Cristina de Ves, a woman from Inca who suffers from a rare disease called “Gerstmann Straüssler Scheinker syndrome” and who needs help for her treatment.
The collection was made through a solidarity raffle that featured up to 300 gifts thanks to the contributions of athletes, companies and associations in the region. Among them, there was an FC Barcelona women’s jersey provided by the World Confederation of Supporters Clubs, as well as gifts from clubs such as Manchester City, Real Mallorca and Atlético Baleares. Donations from tennis players such as Casper Ruud, Enric Mas, Lluís Mas and Mavi García also stood out. Numerous businesses and artists from all over the island of Mallorca also contributed, adding to the efforts of all the volunteers who made the initiative an unquestionable success.
