The 5th Memorial Jordi Compte of Almogàvers Garrotxins brings together more than 1,600 people

The Barça supporters’ club overcame the rain and delivered a day full of activities in Olot, raising more than €2,100 for childhood cancer research

The Penya Blaugrana Almogàvers Garrotxins (Federació de Penyes del Gironès, La Selva, Garrotxa i Pla de l’Estany) held the 5th edition of its major annual celebration: the Memorial Jordi Compte, which honors the founder and first president of the penya. Once again, the city of Olot came alive with a day full of activities for all ages, which this year had to overcome the uncertainty caused by the threat of rain. In the end, the celebration went ahead and once again brought together young and old in a fully festive, supportive and, of course, Barça-centered atmosphere.

A day full of activity

As usual, the Memorial Jordi Compte began with a charity spinning session held in Plaça Mora, in front of the headquarters of PB Almogàvers Garrotxins. Next, the giant Clam, the main symbol of the Garrotxa supporters’ club, led the large parade through the streets of Olot. It was accompanied by the mens’ and women’s Champions League-themed big-head figures, as well as various local groups from the city. The cobla La Principal de Olot and the brass band BufaTramuntana livened up the event, in which the youngest participants were the true stars.

In the evening, despite the presence of rain, the grand closing celebration of the 5th Memorial Jordi Compte took place at the Plaça de Braus of Olot. More than 1,600 people enjoyed performances by Buhos, the orchestra Di-versiones, Lo Pau de Pons, and the final set by Mon DJ. As every year, the Olot Market was set up outside the venue, with local restaurants and businesses providing the event’s food offerings.

Donation for the fight against childhood cancer

For the second consecutive year, the Memorial Jordi Compte had a charitable dimension benefiting the Fundació Albert Bosch, which works in childhood cancer research. In this edition, the supporters’ club raised more than €2,100 thanks to contributions from memorial participants and the spinning activity. A remarkable achievement, considering the challenges the event had to overcome. In this regard, the penya especially thanks the patience and involvement of the public, artists, collaborators and technicians for making it possible for the celebration to ultimately take place.
