Last Saturday, the town of La Garrovilla, in the province of Badajoz, witnessed the strength of the FC Barcelona penyes movement in Extremadura. The occasion was the 35th anniversary of the Peña Barcelonista “Luis Romo”, which brought together more than 200 members representing 30 supporters’ clubs from across the region. As part of the local penya’s celebrations, the Federación Extremadura also held its ordinary assembly to discuss a range of current and future matters.
Major trips on the horizon
The ordinary assembly of the Federación Extremadura was chaired by its president, Miguel Ángel Cruz, and was attended by a broad representation of its member penyes. During the meeting, several internal matters were discussed, including ticket management, as well as the latest FC Barça news. Preparations also began for the major trip to Lisbon that the Extremadura federation is planning for the Champions League match against Sporting CP on 20 January. Shortly afterwards, on 31 January, several presidents of Extremadura penyes are also expected to travel to the Barça–Valencia league match.
35th anniversary of the PB “Luis Romo”
In the evening, the celebrations for the 35th anniversary of the PB “Luis Romo”, hosted the entire day, got under way. Following a reception at La Garrovilla Town Hall attended by Mayor Ana Isabel Frutos, a gala dinner was held for more than 200 guests. Those present included Miguel Ángel Cruz, president of the Federación de Extremadura; Antonio Cienfuegos, president of the PB “Luis Romo”; Jordi Pueyo, a member of FC Barcelona’s Social Commission; Javier Peral “Javito”, a member of the FC Barcelona Players Association; Ana Isabel Frutos, mayor of La Garrovilla; and Raquel del Puerto, president of the Badajoz Provincial Council.
During the celebration, a commemorative gift was presented to every penya attending the event. The traditional cake-cutting ceremony was also held to celebrate 35 years of dedication to the PB “Luis Romo”. The day was a resounding success and was filled with Barça passion throughout.
