Almost a year after the first representation of the “Barça i Catalunya” conference in Brussels, the lecturing activity of the Confederació Mundial de Penyes visited the Belgian capital once again thanks to the promotion of the Penya Barcelonista Casal Català de Brussel·les and the FCB World Federation. While in 2021 the first part, “Els origens de la Simbiosi” (The origins of the symbiosis), was presented, this time it was the turn of its second part: “Temps de Foscor” (Dark Times).
The conference took place last Friday and was once again led by Salva Torres, vice-president of the Confederació Mundial de Penyes, and Xavier Gamper, grandson of the founder of FC Barcelona. The Catalan Government Delegation to the European Union was the venue, where more than fifty people listened attentively to the events that linked the Blaugrana club and Catalan society during the complicated years of the Civil War and the beginning of Franco’s regime.
Illustrious guests
As was the case last year, the PB Casal Català de Brussel-les sent an invitation to the talk to the MEPs from all the political parties in the European Parliament who are Barça fans. One of those who attended on this occasion was Carles Puigdemont, who was joined by members of the socialist party and Esquerra Republicana.
On the other hand, the Confederació Mundial de Penyes was represented by Antonio Freire, president of the FCB World Federation; David Falgàs, president of the Federació Empordà i Catalunya Nord; Claudi Bosch, president of the Federació Lleida Sud; and Toni Valverde, president of the Federació Bages, Berguedà i Cerdanya. Numerous members from Belgian supporters’ clubs were also present at the event.
