Card championships in the “botifarra” format are a true cultural tradition across the Catalan territories, and the Barça penyes prove it through their tournaments. Recently, two organisations repeated their success at their respective events: Penya Barcelonista Fontalba d’Ulldemolins (Federació Tarragona Nord) and Penya Blaugrana d’Anglès (Federació Gironès, Selva, Garrotxa i Pla de l’Estany).
PB Fontalba d’Ulldemolins brings together players from different territories
PB Fontalba d’Ulldemolins reaffirmed the success of its Botifarra Championship in its 16th edition. This year, the penya brought together 38 pairs from different parts of Catalonia, including members of the penyes from Montblanc, Riudecanyes, Bonastre, Sant Jaume dels Domenys, Torredembarra, La Bisbal del Penedès, Reus, Riudoms, Poboleda and Fontalba d’Ulldemolins itself. In addition, the championship attracted players from numerous nearby towns and counties who did not want to miss the event.
The day was attended by Joan Palau, treasurer of the Federació de Penyes de Tarragona Nord; Xavi Toldrà, president of PB Fontalba d’Ulldemolins; Lluis Moragues, member of the Agrupació de Jugadors; Sergi Méndez, mayor of Ulldemolins; and Roser Morlans, sports councillor. All of them, together with the board members of the host penya, were present at the prize-giving ceremony. The championship lasted all morning and ended with a fellowship lunch.
PB Anglès plays a central role in its town festivities
On the occasion of the Gales d’Anglès 2026, the festa major of this Girona town, PB Anglès once again organised a very special outdoor event with its 6th “Botifarra” Championship. Once again, the activity took place in the Jardins de Can Cendra, which welcomed nearly 30 participating pairs, as well as a noteworthy public turnout, throughout an afternoon marked by a friendly atmosphere. The championship is played in Swiss-system format, so all pairs play a minimum of three games and the excitement also builds as the tournament progresses.
Once again this year, PB Anglès, led by its president Jordi Casals, relied on the involvement of its penyistes in organising the initiative. The mayor of Anglès, Jordi Pibernat, was also present. Anglès Town Council, Charter Anglès and Ca l’Elisa were the collaborators of this 6th Campionat de Botifarra. Thanks to them, there were very attractive prizes for the top four finishers —plus a surprise prize—, as well as gifts for all participants.
