One of the youngest supporters’ clubs in the FCB World Federation, Penya Blaugrana Cotonou, organised its first football tournament last weekend. It was at the “Joga Bonito” facilities in their city, where the Beninese penya brought together six teams for a two-day futsal competition. On Saturday, the group phase took place, while on Sunday, the knockout rounds and the grand final were decided.
The PB Cotonou members made up one of the participating teams, which turned out to be the winner of the tournament, but other culés from this area also took part in the tournament, as well as members of other local clubs. In addition to the trophies and medals, the supporters’ club also awarded individual prizes such as best player and best goalkeeper.
This is the first activity organised by PB Cotonou, the first official FC Barcelona supporters’ club in the Republic of Benin, which was made official in August 2021 after several negotiations, and thanks to the mediation of the FCB World Federation and the World Confederation of Supporters’ Clubs. Looking to the future, the penya intends to organise more sporting tournaments and other events with the aim of consolidating itself as a meeting point for Barcelona supporters in this African country.
