Any European trip of FC Barcelona, whatever the competition, becomes an event for the supporters’ clubs movement, and for Barcelona fans in general. Next Thursday’s second leg of the Round of 16 tie against Manchester United promises to be a new example of the movement’s mobilization for these big occasions.
As usual, the Barcelona supporters’ club of the host city or country takes on a special role, and in this case this has fallen to the Penya Blaugrana London. This organization, which belongs to the FCB World Federation, will travel from the British capital to organize the pre-match meeting; an excellent option for the hundreds of supporters, members and culers in general travelling to Manchester to warm up together.
The meeting will start at 15:00 (UK local time) in Shambles Square, which is located in the heart of the city, very close to the Cathedral. The supporters’ club plans to extend the meeting for approximately two hours, after which the Barcelona fans will travel together to the legendary Old Trafford. There, they will cheer the team to get the pass to the round of 16 after yesterday’s victory/draw/defeat at the Camp Nou.
Unconditional fans
The present season is once again seeing the enormous capacity for mobilization of the supporters’ movement on European trips. In the Champions League group stage, this was evidenced in the three away games. In Munich, almost 1,200 supporters came from all over the continent to cheer on the team at the Allianz Arena, while in Milan more than 600 were in the stands of the Giuseppe Meazza. Even in Pilsen, in an irrelevant match, the supporters’ clubs responded, once again, to support the blaugrana team.
