The Penya Blaugrana San Diego (FCB World Federation) has established itself as one of the most prominent partner organizations of the Susan G. Komen Foundation, which works to support women affected by breast cancer and to promote research in the fight against this disease. Recently, the charity invited the California-based penya to take part in two fundraising events: a cruise around San Diego Bay and a women’s volleyball match.
During the bay cruise – an activity organized annually by Susan G. Komen – PB San Diego contributed to the charity raffle by donating a gift basket, which ultimately became the main prize. All funds raised through the raffle were allocated to the fight against breast cancer. Meanwhile, around twenty members of the penya, led by president Rubén Aguilera, attended a match of the San Diego Mojo, the city’s women’s team competing in the Major League Volleyball in the United States. All proceeds from the ticketing were also dedicated to breast cancer research.
Year-round charitable initiatives
PB San Diego’s commitment to the Susan G. Komen Foundation is reflected in a variety of initiatives carried out throughout the year. The penya is a regular participant in the “More Than Pink” walk, where it raised araound $4,400 last year, and it also organizes fundraising activities during screenings of El Clásico matches between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid each season. For all these efforts, the Susan G. Komen Foundation has on several occasions expressed its gratitude to PB San Diego and all its members.
