Once again, the Municipal Stadium “Es Pas de Ses Llebres” in Peguera was filled to capacity for the celebration of the 10th “Villa de Peguera” Solidarity Tournament, organised by the Peña Barcelonista Peguera-Calvià and the local club Cade Paguera, with the collaboration of the Federació de Penyes de les Illes Balears and the Confederació Mundial de Penyes. In this 10th edition, the 8-a-side football championship last weekend brought together 16 teams of youngsters, with a total participation of around 200 children. The presence of 1st Division clubs such as FC Barcelona, RCD Mallorca, Villarreal CF, Valencia CF and Sevilla FC stood out. There were also numerous Mallorcan teams.
With a total of 36 matches played, the tournament held its group phase on Saturday, while the final phase was decided on Sunday. Villarreal CF were the winners after beating FC Barcelona 2-1 in a thrilling final that thrilled the crowd. The president of the Federació de Penyes de les Illes Balears, Oscar Escoda, attended the event and joined the president of the PB Peguera-Calvià, Sebastián Palmer, and the rest of the members of the organising penya. Also present were Juan Antonio Amengual, mayor of Calvià; Javier Tascón, deputy mayor; Juan Pocoví, president of the Balearic Football Federation; and former players Joan Josep Estella and Pep Lluis Martí.
As always, the “Villa de Peguera” Tournament had an important solidarity aspect. The PB Peguera-Calvià raised 1,400 euros, which were distributed between the ASDICA association, which assists people with disabilities in Calvià, and the “Mario – My Big Little Hero” initiative, which raises funds for a child suffering from a rare disease.
Ready for the Mallorca-Barça match
After the success of the tournament, the next date that the PB Peguera-Calvià has marked in red is Monday 25th September. On this day, many supporters’ clubs of the Federació de Balears will hold a meeting with representatives of FC Barcelona on the eve of the Mallorca-Barça match of the 7th round of La Liga. It will be another special day for the Mallorcan penyes collective, which is looking forward to this season with great enthusiasm.
