The penyes did not fail and once again played a key role in a major European event. The trip to the Women’s Champions League finale was a record, with more than 40,000 supporters who dyed the new San Mamés in blaugrana colors. It was an event that will go down in Barça’s history for its size, turnout and for the match result, which marked Barça’s third Women’s Champions League title after beating Olympique Lyon 2-0.
Since May 2019, in the first final played in Budapest, until today, the growth of the penyes’ support for the team has been exponential, as was also seen in the finals of Turin, in 2022, and Eindhoven, last season. This time, the supporters’ clubs movement exceeded all expectations and contributed as never before to the achievement of a title that will be remembered forever.
PB BizkaBarça was the protagonist during the pre-match
The premises of the PB BizkaBarça (Federación Euskadi), very close to San Mamés, was a pilgrimage and meeting point for hundreds of FC Barcelona fans throughout the day; from 11 am, when the doors opened, until match time. Penyes members, supporters and fans were able to meet the unconditional culers of Bilbao and share very special moments with them. A multitude of supporters’ clubs joined in and bonded with other penyes from all 30 territorial federations.
It was also a great day of blaugrana passion in the streets of Bilbao, where the blaugrana flags and scarves waved tirelessly as a prelude to what would be an historic occasion. In the stadium, the penyes made their voices heard along with all the Barça crowd, who made the players feel as if it were a home game. The title celebration was the culmination of a day that will be remembered as one of the most important in the mobilization of the supporters’ clubs movement.
