The penyes enjoyed an all-blaugrana Sant Jordi Day

There were book and rose stands, signings and even literary contests. The day was rounded off with Barça’s victory at Camp Nou.

One more year, the supporters’ clubs’ movement participated actively in the Diada de Sant Jordi, and did so, as always, combining the culé feeling with the traditions of this special day. In many places, the penyes took to the streets with their own stands full of roses and books, always with blue colour complementing the usual red of the typical Sant Jordi flower. This was the case, among many others, of the PB Mataró (Fed. Maresme), the PB Almogàvers Empordà (Fed. Empordà i Catalunya Nord), the PB Sant Andreu de la Barca and the PB Olesa de Montserrat (both from the Fed. Baix Llobregat). Others, such as PB Sitges (Fed. Anoia, Alt Penedès i Garraf), moved the celebration to their social headquarters.

There were also book signings. Specifically, by Salva Torres, vice-president of the Confederació Mundial de Penyes, who presented his publications “Barça i Catalunya: Els origens de la simbiosi” and “Autocar 46: Destí Wembley. Torres signed in Barcelona, where he met Aitana Bonmatí, and in Olesa de Montserrat.

Exporting the Diada to the rest of the world

The Diada de Sant Jordi also highlighted the important role that the supporters’ clubs of the FCB World Federation have in exporting Catalan tradition and culture in their respective territories. The PB Austin did it in Texas (United States) with books and roses for its members, and the PB Gent Barcelonista de Bogotá (Colombia) gave it a solidarity aspect by promoting the donation of books. On the other hand, the PB London was one of the organizations that participated in the celebration of Sant Jordi that took place in the famous London market of Camden.

Another penya that every year adopts the tradition of Sant Jordi is the PB Villabalter (Fed. Castilla y León), which held its IV Short Story Contest with a great success of participation. With this action, framed in the commemoration of its 35th anniversary, the blaugrana entity continues to promote writing and reading among young people.

Victory at the Camp Nou

The Diada de Sant Jordi could not have had a better outcome for the penyes, as many of them went to the Camp Nou to see live the vital victory against Atlético de Madrid. Among others, PB Soses, PB Els Tamarells, PB Baix Camp, PB Joan Gamper d’Amposta, PB Castellbisbal, PB Vinaròs, PB París, PB Rincón del Barça México, PB San Diego, PB Roma, PB Lombarda and PB Gabriel López Sola St-Juery did not miss it.

Some of them, such as PB Vinaròs and PB Poblenou Salut de Sabadell, also visited the headquarters of the Confederació Mundial de Penyes, where they shared the preview of the match. Also present were the federation presidents Pablo Asensio (Asturias and Cantabria), Dionís Crusellas (Osona i Ripolles) and Ramon Fibla (Terres de l’Ebre).
